# Set up email addresses

Send replies and proposals from your own addresses, such as support@ your own domain, and have the answers come back into your inbox.

Add your organisation's own email addresses to 53°, and your team can send replies and proposals from them. Answers come back into the inbox, in the same conversation, so everyone can see what was said.

Without an address, you can still reply from your own email app. See [Manage responses in the inbox](../marketing/manage-responses-in-the-inbox.md).

## Before you start

You need to be an owner or an admin.

Email addresses are included on Orbit (1) and Landing (3). On Landing you can add more for a monthly price each. Launch doesn't include them. See Plans and billing.

You need to be able to change the DNS settings of a domain your organisation owns, such as example.com. You can't use a public email service, such as gmail.com.

## Add your domain

Open Organisation settings, then Integrations.

Under Email, enter your domain and choose Add domain.

Copy each DNS record shown into your domain's DNS settings, wherever your domain is managed. Each record has a type, a host and a value.

Choose Check again. Each record shows Not found yet, Checking or Found. Once they're all found you can add addresses.

DNS changes can take up to a day to be seen. We keep checking, and the domain shows **Verified** once every record is found. Until then, nothing can be sent from it.

## Add an address

Choose Add address.

Enter the part before the @, such as "support".

Give it a name, such as "Acme Support".

Choose who can send from it, or leave it open to everyone who can send email.

Choose Add address.

When someone sends from the address, the email shows their name with your organisation's, such as "Sam at Acme".

If you're on Landing and already have 3 addresses, you're asked to confirm the extra monthly cost before the address is added.

## Have replies come back to the inbox

Every address has a **forwarding address**, which belongs to 53°. Mail sent to it lands in your inbox.

You have two choices for each address:

Replies come straight back to 53°. This is the default and needs no set-up. When a customer replies, their email goes to the forwarding address.

Replies go to this address, and I forward it to 53°. Customers reply to your own address, such as
support@example.com
. Choose this if you also want replies in your existing mailbox, then set up forwarding from that mailbox to the forwarding address.

Forwarding is also how emails that customers send to your address for the first time reach the inbox. They appear under **Emails**.

### Forward from Google Workspace

For a group, such as `support@example.com`:

In the Google Admin console, open Directory, then Groups, and choose the group.

In the group's settings, allow people outside your organisation to be members.

Open Members and add the forwarding address as a member.

For a person's mailbox, in Gmail:

Open Settings, then See all settings, then Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

Choose Add a forwarding address and enter the forwarding address.

Gmail sends a confirmation email to it. In 53°, open the address in your Email settings. The confirmation appears there. Follow the link in it, then choose Done.

### Forward from Microsoft 365

In the Exchange admin centre, open the mailbox or the shared mailbox.

Under Mail flow settings, turn on forwarding and enter the forwarding address.

Keep a copy in the mailbox if you want replies in both places.

## Track opens and clicks

**Track opens and clicks** is off to start with. Turn it on under **Show more** to see in the inbox when a customer has opened an email or followed a link in it. Tracking adds a small invisible image and rewrites links in emails sent from your addresses.

Tracking needs one more DNS record. It's shown with the others while tracking is on.

Telling the people you email that opens and clicks are recorded is yours to do. Our [privacy policy](https://53degrees.app/privacy#email-correspondents) says what we record.

## Daily sending limit

To protect everyone's email from misuse, each organisation can send a set number of emails from its own addresses in any 24 hours.

| Plan | Emails a day | Owners are warned at |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Free trial | 100 | 75 |
| Launch | 500 | 450 |
| Orbit | 1,250 | 1,150 |
| Landing | 2,500 | 2,250 |

Replies and proposals sent from your addresses count, and so do form responses an automation forwards from one.

Emails you send from your own email app don't count.

Your organisation's owners are notified when you're close to the limit, and again when you reach it.

At the limit, choose My email app to keep sending. Your addresses can send again as the day's earlier emails pass 24 hours.

## Good to know

If too many of your emails bounce or are marked as spam, sending from your addresses is paused to protect your domain's reputation. Your addresses still receive email, and your team can still reply from their own email apps. Contact support to resume sending.

There's a limit on how many emails your organisation can send from its addresses each day.

Emails sent to and from your addresses are kept in 53° for your team until you delete them.

Removing an address keeps its conversations. They can't be replied to from that address afterwards.

If you move to Launch, which doesn't include email addresses, nothing is sent from your addresses and emails sent to them aren't kept. Your domain and addresses stay set up for when you upgrade. Your team can still reply from their own email apps.

If you move to a plan with fewer addresses, the extra addresses are kept and still receive email. Sending from the newest ones stops until you remove some or upgrade.

Files attached to an email that arrives are kept with it. They open from the message in the inbox, and anyone who can read the conversation can open them. They count towards your organisation's file storage. An email's attachments are kept up to 25 MB together, of the kinds you can upload to Files.

When an attachment can't be kept, the email still arrives and a note under it names the file and says why: your file storage is full, the email's attachments came to more than 25 MB, it's a type that isn't accepted, or it couldn't be downloaded. Programs and scripts are never kept.

Pictures shown inside an email, such as a logo in a signature, aren't kept.

Your team can attach files to an email sent from one of your addresses, up to 25 MB an email. Those files count towards your file storage too. See Manage responses in the inbox.

Deleting a conversation deletes the files that arrived in it, and the files your team attached in it, and frees their storage.

Emails that arrive are stored as text.
