Chat keeps conversations next to the work they're about. Talk to everyone in General, in named rooms, in direct messages, or in the chat that belongs to a project, contact or deal. Turn a message into a task or a doc when the talking turns into doing.
In the actions sidebar on the right, choose Chat. If the sidebar is closed, press ⌘J on Mac or Ctrl+J on Windows.
Chat opens on the conversation that fits where you are: Project chat on a project, Contact chat on a contact, Deal chat on a deal, and General everywhere else.
To move to another conversation, choose its name at the top of the panel. The list shows Rooms and Direct messages.
A dot on the Chat button means there's something you haven't read.
Type in Write a message….
Press ⌘↵ on Mac or Ctrl+↵ on Windows, or choose Send.
You can also:
Hover over a message to see its actions.
Either way, the new task or doc is linked to the project, contact or deal the conversation belongs to.
Pin a message to keep it at the top of a room or General, such as an announcement or a link everyone needs.
Choose Quick actions on the message.
Choose Pin message.
Each conversation holds one pin, so pinning replaces the last one. Choose Unpin message to take it down.
Choose the + button (New conversation) at the top of the panel.
Choose New message.
Add one or more people and start the conversation.
Rooms are for ongoing topics, such as design or hiring.
Choose + (New conversation), then Create room.
Give it a Name and, if you like, a Description.
Choose its Visibility: Private — invite only, or Public — everyone in the org.
For a private room, add Members.
Choose Create room.
To rename a room, change its visibility or manage its members, open it and choose Room settings.
